BSEditor: HostageMaster is a free Windows program that allows you to play Hostage Chess against a computer.

When HostageMaster is first started, it is set up so that you will play the White pieces, and the computer will play the Black pieces. Pieces are moved by using the mouse. To move a piece:

* move the mouse onto the piece;
* click and hold down the left mouse button, and then move (drag) the mouse to the destination square;
* release the mouse button;

To castle, just move the king two squares left or right. The rook will automatically move.

To promote a Pawn, move it to the 8th rank. You will be asked which piece it should be promoted to.

To move a piece from prison, first move your own piece from its prison to the desired square. You will then be asked which of your opponent's pieces should be freed.

If a move is not legal for some reason, the computer will beep, and put the moved piece back on its original square.
