EditByBSEditor: letters from beneath is a revision of the game i released on halloween, the crypt of the creeps. iidentified the failing of that game as the inevitable encounters with the monsters being too simple to generate the tension that would make the game interesting. my attempt at a solution is to make the single button that resolves each of these encounters different each time. in fact, there are twenty-six possibilities for the correct key every time a Monster finds jane.

as designers of pc games, we have a keyboard of well over twenty-six buttons at our disposal. however, we often choose to only use a small number of those keys: simplicity makes it easier for the player to learn and successfully play the game. but what if we want the player to struggle, to be confused, to fumble and FLaiL? the rule is still simple: press the letter on the monster to knock it out. what complicates it is that there are twenty-six letters and a time limit to hit the right one.

pro-tip: keep one hand on the arrow keys and the other near the Z key. because i wanted to preserve those jump moments when a monster shows up right in front of you, each monster’s letter be closer to Z on the keyboard the closer it is to jane when it shows up. the game is designed for qwerty keyboards.
